Land Rover

The Land Rover is one of the most popular sports utility vehicle brand all over the world. Through the years, the popularity of the car can never be underestimated. The superior performance of every Land Rover car is matched by an interesting history of the company and the brand in general.

The initial Land Rovers were made by British car manufacturer Rover in 1947. The car was developed and designed by Rover chief designer Maurice Wilks. It is said that Mr. Wilks got the inspiration to make the Land Rover design from riding a cozy Jeep, which was a sports utility vehicle popularized during the onset of World War II. As a matter fact, not only did Jeep served as an inspiration. The first Land Rover was also built on a highly reliable Jeep chassis.

After many years and a series of ownership successions, Land Rover is still one of the most important vehicle brands in the world. From Rover, ownership and management of the company was turned over to British Leyland, to British Aerospace and then to BMW. After a series of shake-ups, Land Rover is now one of the most important brand or asset of Ford Motor Company, which included the brand into its Premier Automotive Group.

Land Rover has the title the second oldest or longest-living sports utility vehicle brands across the globe, following Willys-Overland Corporation's Jeep. The first Land Rover was made in 1947, but the first Land Rover for civilian transport was distributed in the market in April 1948.

Originally, the Land Rover was an SUV designed and manufactured for people who want to explore unpaved roads. Thus, the aggressive marketing and advertising campaign for the Land Rover depicted the vehicles out in the sun and into dirt roads and forests. Those images of Land Rovers further boosted consumers' interest and attraction to the vehicles. Even less adventurous and city-confined dwellers have preferred to buy Land Rovers instead of just other premier cars or SUVs.

The Land Rover has also been well known for its reliability. That is why the brand was very much useful to the Commonwealth and the British military especially during the War period. What's more, the Land Rover has been known to initially make use of the power-take off, which was very much integral to the concept of the car brand.

As for usability and consumer features, Land Rovers are hailed as the safest car brand. The United Kingdom's Department of Transport, particularly commended Land Rover for being a car model that has least cases of road accidents. This recognition has further made Land Rovers more invincible not just within the sports utility vehicle segment but also across the whole of the car industry.

Of course, Land Rovers were also subjected to quality and reliability setbacks. But what is more outstanding about this car brand is that through the years, its makers have constantly and more vigorously strived to improve the Land Rovers. Now, it can be safely asserted that the Land Rover is among the safest, most stylish and most reliable vehicle in the World.
