If you are a huge fan of the hit television show ‘24' you must be familiar that the character named McCarthy drove a modern car model of Maserati during the sixth day of the TV program. You must be asking what Maserati is and where did it come from?

Maserati is a luxury car brand for sports and racing vehicles. The company was established in the year 1914 in the province of Bologna in Italy. Since the start of its existence, Maserati has already used the trident emblem as its logo. What's more special about Maserati is its founders. The company was founded by brothers Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, Ernesto and Mario Maserati. The brothers were all actively involved in the automobile industry then.

As a proof that Maserati is never a substandard when it comes to valuation of the car brand, the brand has been pitted directly against high-end rivals like Volkswagen's Bentley, BMW's Rolls-Royce and DaimlerChrysler's Maybach. Currently, there are four major Maserati car models that are being groomed to provide the company with a decent source of income in the future. These models are the Coupe, the Spyder, the GranTurismo and the Quatteoporte, which was the one used in ‘24'.

Maserati has been popular as a high-end or luxury car brand since the year 2002, when the car company re-entered into the United States market after a few years of hiatus in the said area. Now, the country is Maserati's biggest market globally. And the company's market reach worldwide is starting to rapidly pick up.

The company's history is also not so unique. Just like other car manufacturers in the world, Maserati has also been subjected to numerous and significant changes in management. However, it is noteworthy that despite these changes in leadership and ownership, the firm has still managed to stay on top of the game. Maserati is still the premium and luxury racing and sports car brand to beat by global competitors.

Currently, Maserati is half-owned, operated and distributed by Italian vehicle maker Fiat SpA.  The other owner, Ferrari, is also a known luxury brand in itself. More than that, Maserati is also in talks over potential good deals with other premium car brands like Germany's Volkswagen and Audi.

As a luxury car, the Maserati cars have also been featured in numerous television shows and movies. Maseratis have also been a popular choice for novelty gift items to important personalities. The President of Italy received a Quattroporte in 2004 as a gift or token of recognition from the company itself.

The popular TV show ‘Desperate Housewives' is also patronising and promoting the brand. As a matter of fact, during the show's season one, Gabrielle Solis, played by Eva Longoria, drove a Spyder the whole duration of the controversial and breakthrough season. It was because the car was very appropriate for the affluent status of Mrs. Solis.

Today, when people are considering buying luxury cars, Maserati is included in the list of brands for consideration. Expect that the investment would be significant and costly, but for sure, it will be all worth it.
